SMM Group Code of Conduct

All officers (including executive officers) and staff (including fixed-term and temporary employees) shall, in accordance with the corporate philosophy of the SMM Group, comply with the following Code of Conduct. Officers in particular shall, in reflection of their position and responsibilities, exercise strict self-discipline, set an example in carrying out the Code, and educate employees to honor and strictly obey the Code in full.

  • Compliance: Abidance by Laws and Rules
    • All officers and staff will comply with foreign and domestic laws and rules, and conform with social norms.
    • No officer or employee will under any circumstances commit an infraction of the law or act counter to social norms, even if doing so would seem to be in the interests of the Company.
  • Respect for Others
    • All officers and staff will respect the individuality and rights of others, and at no time will engage in any act of a discriminatory nature.
  • Assurance of Health and Safety
    • All officers and staff will give highest priority to ensuring the physical health and safety of customers, employees, and all other persons affected by Group operations.
  • Development of Human Resources
    • All officers and staff will strive not only for their own self-improvement, but also for the educational development of their subordinates and junior colleagues in order to nurture their successors.
  • Risk Management
    • All officers and staff will incorporate risk management principles into the performance of their business operations or related work.
  • Adherence to a Progressive Stance
    • All officers and staff will approach their jobs with a positive and progressive attitude suitable to the creation of technologies and systems in the vanguard of changing times.
  • Respect for Teamwork, Promotion of Good Communication
    • All officers and staff will place high value on teamwork, in the form of cooperation both with other organizations and with fellow workers.
    • All officers and staff will strive to create a cheerful and broad-minded corporate atmosphere conducive to the smooth transfer of required information and the timely performance of reporting, liaison and consultation.
  • Rapport with the Local Community
    • All officers and staff will strive toward a harmonic and mutually beneficial relationship with local citizens.
  • Separation of Corporate Business and Personal Affairs
    • Officers and staff will at all times conduct themselves based on sound judgment, and make a clear distinction between corporate business and their personal affairs.
  • Collection, Usage and Handling of Information
    • All officers and staff will collect information swiftly, properly and lawfully, and use it effectively.
    • Officers and staff will utilize information acquired in conjunction with corporate business expressly for that purpose only, and will not disclose such information to any third party.
  • Handling of Intellectual Property
    • Officers and staff will nurture and maintain conscious recognition of the importance of intellectual property as a vital asset of the Group, and strive toward the creation of such property.
    • Officers and staff will strive to properly protect and effectively use all corporate intellectual property; they will also respect the intellectual property of other parties.
  • Assurance of Quality
    • Officers and staff will carry out their respective roles as demanded by the Group’s quality control systems.
    • Officers and staff will provide products and services which will meet the customer’s satisfaction, always paying full attention to safety demands.
  • Stance toward Performance of Sales and Purchasing
    • Officers and staff will conduct both their sales and purchasing activities through free and fair transactions carried out under conditions of propriety.
  • Stance toward Entertainment and Gifts
    • Officers and staff will entertain and present gifts to others within the proper limits of both the law and social acceptability.
    • The same code will also apply to the receipt of such entertainment or gifts.
  • Complete Severance from Socially Disruptive Forces
    • All officers and staff will staunchly confront and have no relations whatsoever with forces or groups of a socially disruptive nature.
  • Concern for the Global Environment
    • Officers and staff will act in a manner enabling them to contribute to the resolution and/or improvement of resource, energy and environmental problems of global scale.
  • Attitude in the Performance of International Business Activities
    • Officers and staff conducting international business activities will respect the culture and customs of the country or region where they are undertaking such business, and will strive to engage in active international exchange.
